Support sought for canine force
Support is being sought from the community for Taiger, a German shepherd, and Charlie, a golden retriever, who are members of Bee County's and Beeville's finest, and whose jobs are to protect and serve. At a recent meeting of Beeville's Wednesday Luncheon Club, members were made aware of the need for additional equipment to help these four-legged members of the sheriff's and police departments do their job.
Capital murder case could go to grand jury in early October
Assistant District Attorney James Sales said Thursday that he expects to take the murder case against Pablo Garnica to the grand jury early next month. Garnica, 26, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the Aug. 29 deaths of 21-year-old Emilee Barrera of Beeville and 26-year-old Maria Lucia "Lucy" Martinez Ramirez of Corpus Christi.

City could see bond election for new wells
City Council members voted Tuesday to proceed with the issuance of $250,000 in tax notes when they met at City Hall. The vote came after financial advisor Victor Quiroga Jr. of Frost Bank said the city has an A credit rating, and there should be no trouble selling the notes at an interest rate of 1.8 percent to investors.
Engineer cautions on expected life of surface water transmission line from Morrill plant
One subject of major concern mentioned by engineer Sherrill Mercer during a joint meeting at the City Event Center was the 18-mile transmission line from the Morrill treatment plant to Beeville is made of asbestos concrete. The owner of Mercer Controls and Mercer Construction of Edna was speaking to members of the Beeville Water Supply District board and the City Council during the joint meeting last week.

Chasing a dream
The owner of one of Beeville's most successful businesses addressed the Bee Development Authority last Thursday evening in support of converting the airport facilities at Chase Field to a public use facility. In a letter to the BDA board, Dan A. Hughes said that he had invested about $2 million in the airport operation in 2009 with the "intention this would be a public field, and many planes would begin using it."
